And it's not fun, it's annoying. However, you can't believe everything you hear about acne causes and remedies... there are definitely some myths regarding those stubborn pimples and zits and we're here to uncover some of them for you! Myth #1: If you have acne, you're not washing your face enough. FALSE! Unless you go days without washing your face, this probably has very little to do with your acne. It's recommended that you wash your face twice daily, more than that can actually cause more harm than good by drying out your face. But did you know that the type of cleanser you're using can actually make a difference? Sometimes something as simple as switching up your cleanser can help your blemishes begin to disappear. The New Groove Hemp Gel Cleanser by Farmhouse Fresh is specifically designed for those who struggle with acne, blemishes, oily skin, and redness. The ingredients in this facial cleanser work to deeply cleanse and purify, while also soothe and calm your skin. The CBD has been shown to reduce breakouts, redness, and irritation. Myth #2: Sunscreen is going to make my acne worse / cause more breakouts. Mostly false. This really depends on your sunscreen. There are two types of sunscreen that you can use: chemical and mineral. Chemical sunscreens absorb into your skin and filter UV rays, transforming them into heat. Mineral sunscreens sit on top of your skin and actually block UV rays before they have the chance to penetrate your skin. Mineral sunscreens are usually non-comedogenic and non-inflammatory, making them a much better option for those who have sensitive or acne-prone skin. Unfortunately, mineral sunscreens tend to leave behind a white cast on your skin... however, Farmhouse Fresh came out with a modernized formula of their mineral sunscreen which leaves behind little to no white residue on your skin. Myth #3: Popping a pimple (or scrubbing at it) can help make it go away faster. Nope. As tempting as it may be, please don't do this! First of all, popping or irritating your pimples can damage the tissues underneath your skin and it's the easiest way to turn them into a scar. Nobody wants that! Bacteria is the other reason you should avoid popping pimples. The bacteria or pus inside of a pimple can spread very easily, causing more annoying breakouts. Myth #4: Only teenagers get acne. Many of us wish this was true, but we know it's not! Unfortunately, acne does not have an age limit. Many people suffer from acne and breakouts in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. Sometimes the acne you get when you're older will look different from the acne you had when you were younger (think more reddish bumps around your mouth and jaw and less whiteheads across your forehead and cheeks) but it's still acne just the same. Myth #5: There's nothing you can do to help your acne except just wait for it to go away. Granted you should not be popping your pimples (myth #3) to try and speed up the process... But there are treatments that can help rid you of your acne! It's very important and to see a dermatologist if you are struggling with acne. Seeing a professional can be extremely helpful as they can prescribe medications and treatments for your skin. However, if you're not planning on going to the doctor's office, there are a number of treatments available to you over the counter. Our salon actually carries a 3-step rapid acne relief kit, Comeback Clear, that has helped so many clients deal with their acne! The kit includes a specially formulated cleanser, a powerful benzoyl peroxide night lotion, and a weightless salicylic acid serum to clear up blemishes on the spot. We also offer a Comeback Clear facial, designed to help treat your skin in our relaxing spa. When you receive the Comeback Clear facial, you'll leave with a trial-size Comeback Clear kit for you to bring home with you. Try the kit for 5-7 days and if you feel like it's a good fit for your skin (you will), then you can purchase the full-size kit to continue your treatment. As stylists, we love styling our hair; but some mornings we need a lot more sleep and a little less time spent on our morning hair routine.
Luckily, there are simple hacks that help to make our hair healthier, more manageable, and just all around better for when morning time comes around. Be sure to share these hair hacks with a friend - and if you have a hair hack of your own, please share it with us in the comments! 1. Dry your hair before hitting the hay Many people go to bed with wet hair in hopes of saving some time at night and having dry hair in the morning. But did you know that falling asleep with wet hair might not only make your hair more difficult to style in the morning, but can also cause major damage? The frizz and kinks that you'll probably wake up with are annoying... But what's worse is that hair is at its weakest when wet, so tossing and turning on top of your wet hair can create tangles, snarls, and breakage. Make sure you dry your luscious locks before going to bed. If you're a person who prefers to let their hair air dry, give yourself a few hours after washing your hair before you turn in for the night. 2. Overnight hair treatments are a MUST Using an overnight hair treatment that you love is an amazing and simple way to benefit your hair. Many of these overnight treatments and masks can be applied to dry hair and do not have to be rinsed or washed out in the morning - making your morning hair routine shorter and simpler! The majority of overnight hair treatments focus on major hydration. Having a layer of nutrients on your hair all night long allows for plenty of time for your hair to absorb these nutrients and receive some intense moisturization. Using an overnight treatment also improves your general hair health, fights frizz, and prevents tangles while you sleep. Amika has an awesome product called the Dream Routine Overnight Hydration Treatment. This is one of those great products that you can apply to dry hair before bed and doesn't need to be washed when you wake up in the morning. It uses hyaluronic acid to boost moisture for over 72 hours for 3 times more hydrated hair. The reviews we have heard on this product are fantastic. It's great for those with dry or damaged hair... and oh yeah, it's also vegan! 3. Get yourself a silk pillowcase You've probably heard a thing or two about silk pillowcases and maybe you're wondering if they're actually worth making the switch... We're here to tell you that they are so worth it. If you're using a basic cotton pillowcase, your hair strands could be getting caught in the tiny fibers. This causes your morning hair to have a rough and frizzy look. Silk pillowcases, however, allow each and every beautiful strand of yours to glide easily on top of your pillowcase as you sleep. I noticed that when I started using a silk pillowcase, I woke up with noticeably smoother hair (and I'm a natural frizzhead). Also, don't think you need to purchase an expensive, high end silk pillowcase. Any silk pillowcase will do the trick. There are plenty of options on Amazon! 4. High bun = high volume If you struggle with flat roots, try putting your hair in a loose high bun before bed! When I say high bun, I mean secure that bun as high as possible, the very top of your forehead if you can. Wearing a high bun to bed helps to lift your roots so they are more voluminous and bouncy in the morning. It's important to keep the bun LOOSE. Securing the bun too tightly can create an opposite effect and result in flat roots. Also, instead of using a hair tie, try securing the bun with a claw clip! This will help to make sure you don't get marks from your tie, and also helps to minimize hair breakage! 5. Dry shampoo BEFORE bed Most of us love dry shampoo, including myself. But most of us don't know that dry shampoo can be more beneficial when used before bed rather than in the morning. Using dry shampoo at night allows for the product to fully absorb all of the oil, grease, and sweat in your hair. Dry shampoo also works best when you're proactive in using it - applying the dry shampoo at night before oil and sweat sets in is better than trying to mask it once it has already built up in your hair and on your scalp. Looking for dry shampoo recommendations that actually work?? Try the Amika Perk Up Plus or the Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo. |
